A generic term used for the large amount of space in sector A and part of H. The only reason it’s called Unknown Space is because it’s unknown. No ship entering into this section of the Galaxy has ever come back out. Beacons spread through out the area warn ships of this danger.
Ships have reported strange phenomena with their read outs and lights that shine always just out of reach no matter how far they travel. This is all been reported before comm signals go out. At that point the craft is never seen again, sometimes.
One strange case involved a salvage barge spotting a ship just withing in the region. Entering they found it to be in perfect shape, but abandoned. It was a cruise ship called ‘Far Run Winter’. They hooked the ship to the barge and began pulling it out of the zone. The crew reported that the ‘ghost ship’ was easily coming along, but the moment no one had eyes on the liner, it vanished, the tow line sheered perfectly in half. Upon returning to Scanlon Station they found out that this cruise vessel had disappeared near Unknown Space over four centuries earlier.
This region goes by many names now, Cursed Space, The Region, Dead Zone, on and on. Each Empire seems to have a new name for it after they find out what it is, or lose a ship to it.
