Statesmen and Shadows
Chapter 1
Scanlon Station
Ambassadorial District for Sector G
Saeric Odraine walked quickly through the corridors of Scanlon Station still surprised at the sheer size of the station. He’d been to the Twin Stars Station back in Laria, but that didn’t come close to Scanlon. “It’s as big as a planet.” He muttered."How could they even have built something this large?"
Rist glanced over at him as they walked down the corridor, "What was that Saeric?" He adjusted the holster at his side, unaccustomed to the lighter pistol at his hip. He scowled thinking again that Harn was taking too long getting his preferred weapon serviced and he'd have to see what else was available after the meeting.
Waving his hand at the question Saeric shrugged, "Oh, nothing. Just taking in the size of this station. If it wasn't for that transfer tube we'd never have made it to this meeting. As it is we may be a couple of minutes late..."
"We'd have been there with lots of time if you'd listened and gotten private transport... public transport isn't something you should be using as an ambassador, it's not dignified, and it's about as secure as market day held in a thieves den..."
"Bah! We've hardly been here long enough for anyone to be causing problems for me specifically. I want to get to know this station if I'm going to be here for any length of time, and you don't do that any faster than walking it. There was lots of time in any case, or there would have been if it wasn't for how long those Trade Union reps keep me asking for cargo data I already promised them..."
He slowed down as they approached a door, "and we're here finally. This should be good. I'm hoping to see what they have to say on the current issues with those Mord pirates, they are hitting a bit close for my liking, and the Archeans have been hit hard and recently, so they should have something they may be willing to share on the pirate's strength."
He glanced back as he reached out for the door controls. "Oh, and try not to shoot anyone while we're here, you haven't stopped playing with that new gun of yours since you got it..."
Rist tensed up slightly before nodding sharply and moving his hand from the holster to his belt, moving behind Saeric to gain a view of the room over his shoulder as the door hissed open.
