The Inter-Galactic Police force or IGP is an organization facilitating cross-imperial police cooperation. They are also the main police force for Scnalon Station.
In order to maintain as politically neutral a role as possible, the IPG's constitution forbids its involvement in crimes that do not overlap several member Empires, or in any political, military, religious, or racial crimes. Its work focuses primarily on public safety, terrorism, organized crime, crimes against sentients, genocide, war crimes, piracy, illicit drug production, drug trafficking, weapons smuggling, sentient trafficking, money laundering, white-collar crime, computer crime, intellectual property crime and corruption.
The IGP differs from most law-enforcement agencies. A criminal taken into custody by an IGP officer is held at the closest jail until they can be extradited to which ever Empire the crime was committed in; where they are then turned over to the Imperial Police. Suspects that have committed crimes in multiple Empires are taken to the IGP headquarters on a 'moon' of the Scanlon Station and tried there. In most cases the agency functions as an administrative liaison between the law-enforcement agencies of the member Empires, providing communications and database assistance.
IGP's databases help law enforcement see the big picture of inter-galactic crime. While other agencies have their own extensive crime databases, the information rarely extends beyond one Empires's borders. IGP can track criminals and crime trends around the galaxy. They maintain collections of fingerprints and mug shots, lists of wanted persons, DNA samples and travel documents. They also analyze all this data and release information on crime trends to the member Empires.
In the event of an inter-galactic disaster, terrorist attack or assassination, IGP can send an incident response team. This team can offer a range of expertise and database access to assist with victim identification, suspect identification and the dissemination of information to other Epires' law enforcement agencies. In addition, at the request of local authorities, they can act as a central command and logistics operation to coordinate other law enforcement agencies involved in a case.
IGP officers will also work with the Sib'yls, agents of the Watchers. The relationship of the Sib'yls and the IGP is a strained cooperative one at best. Officers of the IGP do not trust the Sib'yls, but see them as a necessary evil to catch the greater threats to the Galaxy. The IGP believe the Sib'yls to be overkill and a possible threat themselves.
Playing an IGP officer
Crimes that an IGP writer/player would be involved in would either be cross Imperial boarders (to which permission is needed to use an empire) or take place at Scanlon Station.
Other Empires may ask a writer of an IGP officer to come into their Empire to investigate anything they may need to. These requests will be posted below. An admin may also post an order to investigate a crime or what have you below. Any writer may take the order by posting a response there, first come first serve. After accepting the order the investigation story will go into the Narrative section of the forum.
